TMEdit 2.0 Released. Yes, for App-V

TMEdit (not TMEditX) is our App-V package editor tool, used to improve packages for Microsoft App-V. It’s been a while since we had a release and I had been sitting on a few fixes requested by customers. But rather than just some bug-fixes, we have something new here.

First, TMEdit 2.0 is being released as an MSIX package. Why? Because MSIX packages are just easier for you to deal with than a setup.exe. If you already own TMEdit under an active subscription, you’ll want to uninstall the old version and install this one. You will need to reactivate the license but contact us if you lost the key.

Second, we added better automation to the product. When you open up a package, it has always analyzed the package and suggest a set of appropriate fixes. But now we have a new “Apply All Fixes” button to just fix them all. Well, maybe I should say all by default. In the Tool Configuration, you can establish Fix Policies through a set opt-in and opt-out features by fix type. By default, they are all opt-in.

Second, additionally there is a new set of command switches for TMEdit. So you can automate the fixes and saving of the package via a PowerShell script or a partner vendor tool. And those policies I mentioned for the fix types apply, except when you specify any on the command line to override the policy. We’ve learned a lot from customers of our X product for MSIX and are applying those ideas here.

Third, the analysis for compatibility to convert to MSIX has been updated based on what we now can do with MSIX.

Fourth, there is a new important fix we brought over from TMEditX dealing with Shell Explorer Context menus (for Notepad++).

There is more to this story, but that will have to wait for another day!

TMEdit is a licensed tool that has a free trial mode. So if you are still doing App-V, you need this tool. We also have a great deal on the TMEdit/TMEditX bundle if you are also moving to MSIX.
