Whether you are brand new to Repackaging or an old hand at it looking to upgrade your skills for the latest techniques and versions, this class will teach you the fundamentals through to the techniques the experts use.
Classes are small, typically not more the 10 students, and hands-on. You will be taught by Tim Mangan, the world's foremost expert on packaging.
Skills Leaned
After attending this class you will be able to:
- Set up your workspace for packaging and testing.
- How to create and apply code signing certificates.
- Understand how to analyze an application for potential issues and preparation.
- Know our current Best Practices for repackaging to MSIX.
- Learn advanced skills for MSIX packaging, including the PSF and TMEditX.
- Avoid the pitfalls of virtualization and containers.

Unless you have a team of five or more, our public class offering, which is scheduled regularly in the US and Europe, is the most cost effective way to get up and running with App-V and MSIX. This is a five day, hands-on, intensive course of study. The emphasis of the course is hands-on and practical as to how you are going to deploy Application Virtualization/Containerization and prepare applications. We cover both the basics and deep dives via instructor presentations. The labs are designed to provide, hands-on experience in packaging and testing. Students are encouraged to bring in their own troublesome applications to work on such that real-world troubleshooting can be experienced. All students leave with a hard copy of our Guidebooks for their future reference. These guides are the definitive word on Microsoft MSIX!
Students successfully completing the class will receive a certificate of completion from TMurgent.
Except under rare circumstances, classes are run on the latest public release. We have even been known to swap in a new release that occurs during the week of the class when we have had access to the pre-release versions.
Course Includes:
- 32 hours of Experts Level Repackaging for MSIX course.
- Access to Hands-on Labs.
- Lunches all 4 days (in-person classes only).

Remote Classes
Remote classes usually require students to prepare their own VMs to work on prior to the start of class. We will provide all of the details on how to do that, including a lot of scripts to make it easy.
There will also be a mandatory short video meeting scheduled for the week prior to the start of class. Here we will test out the communication equipment, and check that your VMs are ready to go and answer any questions on the setups.
Public classes are normally limited to a maximum of 10 students to ensure that everyone receives the individual attention they deserve.
Syllabus:
We do not publicly post our syllabus because we have found it copied by others when in fact they do not cover the materials as thoroughly as we do. There are currently 16 labs in the App-V Sequencing Guidebook alone, plus additional labs in the MSIX Guidebook. Rest assured, you are learning from the best of the best and our class is the most complete available. If in doubt, just tweet out a question about the quality of the class on twitter using the #appv or #msix hashtag.
Cost and Availability:
Class pricing varies based on the location. See individual classes for pricing. Most public classes in the US are held in the Boston, MA area, although we typically move a winter class somewhere warmer. In Europe we have partners that host the training regularly in The Netherlands, Switzerland, and Austria.
Public classes are normally limited to a maximum of 10 students to ensure that everyone receives the individual attention they deserve.
We offer both public and private classes in three forms.
On site
Public on-site classes will be at a training facility or hotel. We will provide a complete training experience using our mobile lab. You are responsible for your own travel, hotel, and meals. In most on-site public classes, we will provide a lunch each day and one dinner.
For private on-site classes, you are expected to provide the facilities (a conference meeting room), usually using your own facilities, but if it makes sense, you can also use an outside site nearby. We can bring in our mobile lab, but typically customers prefer to do the work on their own equipment. Each student needs two VMs, and in advance we will provide the specifications, along with much of the software and installation scripts (or you can acquire/install on your own from the documentation). You cover any costs for the facilities, travel of your staff to the site, and any meals you choose to provide.
Remote-Live
Our Remote-Live classes are identical to the on-site classes with the following differences:
- Offered over Teams.
- Run 4 hours per day for twice the number of days. Nobody is "out for training" all day.
- No hotel or travel expenses.
- Each student will need to stand up 2 VMs, using specifications, scripts, and software we will provide in advance of the class. In a private class typically one person does the setup and clones them for everyone.
- Same high-quality training, with more limited interactions between students (especially during the breaks).
Hybrid
Private classes can also be offered in a hybrid style, where the bulk of the class is in-person, but a few people come in remotely. This is an additional option to reduce your travel costs, but these will be full days for the remote folks too.
Public Training
We offer public training in Repackaging for MSIX regularly, with in-person classes in the Europe and the United States and remote-live classes in time zones that meet the entire world's needs.
These classes are priced per-student and support customers that have only a few people to be trained. Another draw of the public classes is that they allow students to interact with their peers from other organizations.
Public classes are typically run either at a hotel or at a training facility. In Europe, we regularly use a training facility located in Culemborg, The Netherlands, but have also run classes in Switzerland, Prague, Malmo, Vienna, and Oslo. In the US, we might place the class in a hotel in a major city based on interest. Often the US classes are in Boston where we are based, but other recent cities include Orlando, Houston, and Chicago.
Currently scheduled classes are shown on the home page of the website. If you don't see one that works for you, please reach out to
Private Training
We offer custom private training in Repackaging for MSIX and/or App-V upon request. We have also done some developer oriented related trainings in the past. When you have 5 or more packagers to be trained, this can be more cost effective than the public training class option.
These classes are priced on a per 8-hour day basis, rather than per-student. We prefer to limit participation to 10 students; however, this can be exceeded in a private class. In addition to cost, another draw of the private classes is that we can either provide the same material of the public class or customize the class to your needs. In addition, in the case of an organization with a large number of students we can run two trainings with half in each. This can be arranged as morning/afternoon or serially. You can also consider adding in special sessions for a wider audience. For example, many customers like to bring in non-packagers (managers, deployment folks, and help-desk folks) to the first day of class where we cover the overall technology and can address their specific needs. These classes also offer a bonding experience to your group when they do not work together at the same site regularly.
We will quote you a fixed price in advance, based on your requirements around the number of days, and any unusual travel costs we might need to undertake.
